Lowndes' Story Wins Award

Craig Lowndes 'A Red Hot Go', the Australia Story documentary profiling V8 Supercar ace Craig Lowndes, was named Best Current Affairs Documentary or Special at the 2007 Queensland Media Awards last weekend.

The documentary, which aired on ABC Television in March, chronicled the second half of Lowndes' 2006 V8 Supercar season which included the emotional passing of his mentor Peter Brock.

"The Craig Lowndes story was a lot of hard work, but also a lot of fun," Australian Story producer Roger Carter said.

"I would like to thank Craig and Nat Lowndes for their honest and candid involvement in the story.

"I would also like to thank the motor sport fraternity for their support of this story, from the fans who watched on the night through to the organisers and officials who allowed us close access to the sport."

Next up in the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series is the Just Car Insurance Sandown 500 endurance race, to be held at Melbourne's Sandown Raceway on 14-16 September.

Lowndes, a three time Sandown 500 winner, has moved up to fourth place in the series after three consecutive podium finishes and will be partnered by Jamie Whincup in the two long-distance races.

The TeamVodafone pair finished third at Sandown in 2006, before going on to win the inaugural Peter Brock Trophy at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

"I'm really looking forward to Sandown and Bathurst," Lowndes enthused.

"Jamie has really come along in leaps and bounds this year and we know we're going to be one of the strongest combinations in the field.

"Last year at Sandown we were quick and still finished third even with a problem at one of the pitstops.

"We're taking some great form into the endurance races and our race all year has been consistent throughout each race, so we'll be out to have a strong Sandown as a build-up to defending our Bathurst crown."
